How to Book

Booking your Kilimanjaro climb is easy. Here's exactly what happens, from picking your date to taking your first step on the mountain.

Choosing your climb date

Choose a date

Browse our upcoming group climbs and pick the route and departure date that suits you. Each climb shows the route, the dates and the per-climber price.

Can't find the perfect dates, or climbing with a team?

You can build your own climb — choose your route, group size and preferred start date — or request a tailored quote.

The date shown on a climb is “Day 1”, the day you set off for the park gates. We recommend arriving in Arusha or Moshi at least one day beforehand — see Planning Your Climb. Most tour packages include a night accommodation before and after, so take that into account as well.

Completing your details

Complete your details

Tell us who's climbing. You'll create your account (or sign in) and enter your details — name, contact details and emergency contact — so we can keep you informed in the lead-up to your climb.

Booking as a group? Once your booking is created you can invite the other climbers to join your group, and each climber completes their own details, gear and payments from their own account.

Selecting gear to hire

Select any gear you need to hire

Check the recommended gear list against what you already own. Anything you're missing can be hired through Gear Rental — from sleeping bags and jackets to walking poles — and is delivered to your hotel ready for your briefing.

Hired gear should be reserved ahead of time. As a guide, please confirm your rental items at least 14 days before departure so everything is ready and waiting when you arrive.

Completing the medical questionnaire

Complete a medical questionnaire

Kilimanjaro is a high-altitude trek, so your safety comes first. Each climber completes a short medical questionnaire declaring any conditions, medications or allergies our guides should be aware of.

We strongly recommend discussing your climb with your doctor, particularly regarding altitude. For more on preparing your body and mind, see Training & Health.

Pay your deposit to lock in your tour

Secure your place with a per-climber deposit, paid securely by card. As soon as your deposit is received your booking is confirmed and your spot on the climb is locked in.

Your climb is organised and your payment processed by Winds of Hope Pty Ltd, so card payments appear on your statement as WINDSOFHOPE. See Rates & Fees for current pricing and deposit amounts.

Select any additional tours or activities

Make the most of your trip. There are plenty of ways to extend your adventure — a safari in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater, day trips to local national parks, a few days on the beaches of Zanzibar, or extra nights' accommodation.

Let us know what you're interested in and we'll help organise it. You can add your preferences when you request a quote, or just get in touch.

Pay your final balance

Your remaining balance is due before departure. You can pay it any time from your account — in one payment or in parts — right up until it's due.

As a guide, the balance is due around 60 days before your climb starts. We'll remind you in good time, and your account always shows what's paid and what's outstanding.

Start climbing!

The exciting part! Arrive in Arusha or Moshi, where we'll collect you from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer you to your hotel. That evening you'll join your climb and safety briefing, then set off the next morning for the park gates and your first day on the mountain.

Your downloadable tour itinerary

Your Itinerary

At every stage of your booking, your personalised tour itinerary is updated immediately. As you choose your date, add gear, pay your deposit and select extra activities, those changes flow straight into your itinerary — so you always have an up-to-date, downloadable document of your tour, ready whenever you need it.

We also email you a copy of your itinerary at important stages throughout the whole process, so you always have a copy of it. Our tour leader will also have a shortened version of your itinerary with personal, emergency, gear and medical answers on hand at all times.

What else you need to do

We take care of your climb, your local transfers and your accommodation around the trek — but there are a few things you'll need to arrange yourself:

  • Book your own flights. You'll need return flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Aim to arrive at least a day before Day 1. See How to get to Kilimanjaro for routes and airport tips.
  • Sort your visa, vaccinations and travel insurance. Most visitors need a Tanzanian visa, some routine and travel vaccinations, and travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking. See Visas, Vaccines & Insurance and talk to your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance.
  • Check your passport. Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates and has blank pages for entry.
  • Prepare your body. Build up your fitness in the months beforehand — see Training & Health and our Personalised Training options.
